I've been playing golf on West Virginia's mountain courses for over 15 years. Before starting Golfing Beckley, I spent two decades in tech — as Google employee #37 where I helped build the AdWords quality scoring system, then as the global architect for Amazon Associates, the world's largest affiliate marketing platform. I've seen the internet from the inside. Now I spend my time on the fairways of Appalachia, testing gear the old-fashioned way: by actually using it.
I started this site in 2025 with one promise: every piece of gear I recommend, I've paid for with my own money and tested with my own hands. No sponsors. No "review units." No marketing scripts.
How We Test Gear
Every product on this site goes through the same four-step process — no shortcuts, no exceptions.
- 1. We Buy It. Retail price, from real stores. No manufacturer samples, no "review units," no freebies. If we're recommending it, we paid for it first.
- 2. We Play It. On real grass at Grandview Country Club and other Beckley-area courses. No simulators. No launch monitors in a warehouse. Just real golf, in real conditions.
- 3. We Measure It. Distance, dispersion, feel, durability, and value — all tracked over multiple rounds. Numbers don't lie, and neither do we.
- 4. We Write Honestly. If something is bad, we say so. If something is great but overpriced, we say that too. No affiliate link has ever changed a rating on this site.
